No Common Measure LLC operates nocommonmeasure.com. This policy covers this website, its email sign-ups and its guest story form.

Information collected

Email sign-ups

The sign-up form asks for an email address and an optional first name. It also records the page used to sign up, permission to receive email, the date of that permission and subscription status. Confirmation and unsubscribe security records help protect email preferences.

This information is used to confirm a sign-up, send new-episode announcements and the weekly note, and manage email preferences. Joining the email list is optional.

Guest stories

The guest form collects a name, email address, preferred language, story topic, the behavior described, the story itself, and permission to get in touch. Country and a link to an online profile or website are optional.

Submissions are used to consider possible guests and discuss an appearance. Sending a story does not sign anyone up for the newsletter or give permission to publish the story. Publication and recording arrangements are discussed separately.

Please include only what is needed to explain the story. Avoid unnecessary medical, financial or identifying details about anyone else.

Website use and Microsoft Clarity

Microsoft Clarity helps identify confusing pages and improve the website. It records website interactions such as clicks, scrolling and navigation, and provides heatmaps and session replays. It can also process device and browser information, referring pages, approximate location and online identifiers.

Clarity may use first- and third-party cookies and similar technologies. Microsoft also processes this information for purposes described in the Microsoft Privacy Statement. Email sign-up consent is separate from analytics or cookie consent.

The website host also processes technical request information, such as IP addresses and browser details, to deliver the site and help keep it secure.

Where information is stored

Supabase
Stores email sign-ups, permission and subscription records, guest submissions, and daily summaries of website activity from Clarity.
Resend
Processes recipient email addresses, email contents and delivery information so messages can be sent and delivery problems investigated.
Microsoft Clarity
Processes and stores website analytics, including session replay and heatmap data.
Vercel
Hosts the website and processes requests and technical logs needed to operate it.

These providers handle information needed to deliver their services. Their systems and service providers may be in a different country from the visitor. No Common Measure does not sell email sign-up details or guest submissions.

Keeping information

Sign-up and guest records are kept to manage subscriptions, consider stories and maintain a record of permissions. A limited record may need to remain to honor an opt-out, resolve a dispute or meet a legal requirement. Deleting a story and stopping email updates are separate requests.

Provider retention periods and backups can differ. Microsoft explains its analytics retention in its Clarity retention guide. A deletion request can be made using the contact below.

Choices and privacy requests

Contact No Common Measure to ask what information is held, request a correction or deletion, withdraw permission to be contacted about a guest submission, or stop email updates. Where an email includes an unsubscribe link, that link can also be used to opt out.

Unsubscribing stops future email updates; it does not delete a contact record. Keeping an opt-out record helps prevent unwanted messages later. A request for deletion is considered separately, including any records that must be kept by law.

Browser settings can limit cookies, although blocking cookies alone may not prevent every form of analytics collection. Depending on location, additional privacy rights may apply, including the right to complain to a local privacy authority. Reasonable proof of identity may be needed before account information is disclosed or deleted.
